Question about Step 1 exam scheduling

I have a question about scheduling Step 1 for which I couldn't find an answer on the exam site:
My exam scheduling period is March 1st to May31st. I still haven't decided the date I want to take it, but I was wondering how late I can schedule the appointment, and still get the the date I want (without penalty). I'm thinking mid-April but am not completely sure at this point

You can visit the prometric site regularly to check if a spot is available at the test site

Spots fill up quick, I would schedule it well in advance!

Ya but it all depends on the center where u intend to take it. Coz in many centers spots are never filled completely except for the busy months and sometimes new spots are opened up coz ppl reschedule.

It would be wise to schedule sooner to get the timing you want but I have seen new spots open up for some sites that have better timings due to the demand. Maybe they do that every year?

Ya def it's wiser to schedule earlier. By new spots I meant the spot free up when other people reschedule
