Hi,

I noticed that for step 2 CS as opposed to step 1 and the CK exam, there is a window period of reporting scores. For instance, if I take the exam between Jul 18 and Sept 11, 2010, the reporting window is from Oct 13 to Nov. 10, 2010 (from the USMLE website).

I was wondering if I take the test in the second week or Aug. does that mean that my score will be released earlier than if I take the test in the third week of Aug. or is it a totally random process? I think I heard from a fourth year at my school that it is usually random and someone who takes their test late in one cycle could get their score early in the reporting period but he was not really sure.

Thanks...😀

It's usually random. From the forum data, it seems to vary by site and date.

You can read about what they say on the website:

Plan accordingly if you need the score by a certain date.

Hi Frugal Traveler,

I saw in another post that you recommended the Kaplan Step 2CS book. I have that book and it was published in 2004. I see there's a newer book, Kaplan Medical USMLE Step 2 CS: Complex Cases: 35 Cases You Are Likely to See on the Exam (Kaplan USMLE). Did you use the older book or this newer one? Do you think it matters?

By the way, it would be nice if there was a sticky to find out what the concensus study resources are for Step 2 CS and Step 2 CK.

I think the consensus amongst the students at my school was:
Step 2 CS: First Aid
Step 2 CK: Crush

I thought the First Aid book was fine. I didn't practice with anyone (I should have) but I made sure to know that book front to back. I did not like Crush as I thought it wasn't detailed enough.
