Hey what does everyone think about these summer plans?
I currently work full-time as an accountant, have all my pre-med prereqs completed, am filling out the app for 2011 right now, and live in Texas. Right now I am signed up for Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 this summer at the local community college, I'm going to be doing Genetic research all summer and fall on with a prof for a four-year institution, and I'm taking a medical terminology course at the comm college. I'm also volunteering saturday nights at JPS county hospital in Fort Worth and volunteering for a hospice. I already have over 1000 hours of shadowing from a job and 300-400 hours community service/volunteering so I'm not worried too much about those...
How will medical schools view my decision to take Spanish classes as opposed to taking upper level science courses? I have not had any upper level science courses above and beyond what is required for medical school, but I feel like it will become increasingly important for physicians in the south to speak Spanish and there will be no better time for me to start learning it.
Thoughts?
Thanks
