question about the scramble

during the scramble, is it okay to fax your personal statement or is it advisable to have a separate letter of intent ready to fax. this is in regards to programs with unfilled spots in the same field you tried for in the match.

If you applied to or interviewed at places you're calling to scramble at, they'll already have your statement.

However, the CAF and/or your resume will be the big hitters. Places will tell you what they want to be faxed to them. My program got 140 calls last year, so there wasn't much time to read a statement.

thanks for the info. my question was that if the situation comes where you need to fax a statment, then im wondering if your personal statement is enough rather than creating another letter of intent.

Well, to be blunt, it may be all for naught. Generally, the scramble is so chaotic, it would be difficult to find someone to thoughtfully read your statement.

Nonetheless, it should be pretty easy to tweak your statement (right now) so that it is scramble-apropos.

should we add something like: "in conclusion, i look forward to scrambling into your fine program after not being able to match at it or at my other 15 choices."?

Essentially, yes - in that your PS talks about applying during the scramble, versus "I've applied to your program, because it individually provides all of the elements I have been expecting in a training program".

Of course, if you put a line like "not being able to match at it or at my other 15 choices", well, you need some strategy advice!
