Hello everyone,

I just graduated from university half a semester early in the fall and started a new job as an ABA therapist in the middle of December. My question is: I applied this cycle to both MD and DO programs and have been fortunate enough to receive multiple DO acceptances and four MD interviews. From these interviews, I was waitlisted at MCW, and I haven’t heard back from the two other state schools I interviewed at (UCLA on September 17, CUSM on October 7). I also recently received an interview invite from Penn State, scheduled for February.

My question is that I decided to graduate early in the fall, meaning none of my schools have been informed that I’ve graduated yet. I would like to know if I should send an update letter to MCW, where I am waitlisted, and UCLA, informing them that I’ve graduated, providing my last semester's GPA, and sharing a little update about my new job. I just want to maximize my chances for an acceptance from the school where I’ve been waitlisted and haven’t heard back from yet.

What do you think?

What do you think?
I think graduation and grades are fine. Did you list the ABA therapist job on AMCAS? What's the nature of the update

No, I haven't listed it because I graduated 4 weeks ago and just started the job 2 weeks ago. Should I update them on that as well?

Then that's fine to add as well.

You can update after you have stayed in your job beyond your probation period (1 month).

Hello everyone,

I know this is a very popular topic, but I wanted some input. I have been fortunate enough to have an acceptance from a DO program and have interviewed at four MD schools—one waitlisted and three pending decisions. The school I got waitlisted at is MCW. Due to poor advice from my academic counselor back in October when I interviewed, he suggested right after the interview to submit my intent letter. I later got waitlisted at the school. Currently, they are still my top choice, considering I would prefer to move out of state and I am pretty familiar with the Milwaukee area.

Long story short, I contacted their admissions office to ask if it would be okay to submit another intent letter to the school with updates about my fall graduation and the current clinical job I have, which has been really good in persuading me to go into the specific field of medicine that I am interested in and also ties pretty well into my story. My question is, I am pretty much done with the intent letter, but I have been seeing some mixed opinions on when to submit it because their waitlist movement starts after April 30th. So, would it make sense to submit it towards April, now, or does it not matter? I have heard that MCW has a high post-interview acceptance rate, and it truly is a top choice for me. That's why getting off that waitlist is very important for me if possible.

Thank you so much for rereading this common topic that almost everyone writes about.

I don't know about MCW specifically. You can send a check-in to MCW letting them know, "hey you're still my boo" (more professionally than this). Whether the goal is an update or reaffirming intent, I guess follow the lead from the admissions office.

Thank you! Do you have any advice on the timing? Considering that their waitlist starts moving in May, should I wait until around April to submit it, or can I submit it now? Does it even matter?

If it's an LOI I'd maybe wait till later, but timing strictly doesn't matter.
