Hi there,

I searched through the forums, and I came across something a little interesting, and just thought I would ask for some clarification...

For UQ, it says that the GPA is not taken into consideration when ranking applicants, but they don't do an interview for graduate admission... does this mean they only really consider your MCAT score for admission for international applicants, as there aren't any reference letters?

They only look to see if you are above 2.5? ...Just seems a little weird to me!

Also wondering, does anyone have any idea as to when offers are first made? I know the application deadline is in May...

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks 🙂

MCAT is used for ranking, with GP used as a tiebreaker (e.g., suppose 5 applicants have an MCAT of 30).

Admissions is rolling with no deadline when done directly, I believe processed in batches, so you could hear back a few weeks after applying. Or if you apply through ACER, they have their own deadline (May), and I'd think the volume would slow the school down as they work out their remaining quota (for better or for worse!). The school says they expect the accepted class to be full around September.

Oh! Thank you very much for your help!! 🙂

What is the attrition rate of the program? Some of the international programs weed out many students in first or second year, this does not help students except gives them pleasure for a month or two that they made it to med school. I have a friend who got into Ross and now looking to transfer to other school-kind of failed. This is loss of 60K for him.
Also any stats on getting residency in US specially in top programs?

There are no stats for residencies yet since our first cohort has yet to get there. UQ students outside this particular program have scored extremely well on the Step and placed well (lots of independent study involved).

As for attrition rate - I shouldn't really go into details, but I can assure you that if you put in the time you will pass. There are some people that fail every year, but that number is very low and from the ones I knew I can tell you it was because they did not take the program seriously enough. But that is something you need to do no matter where you are. There are no policies here to ensure a certain number don't pass. 100% of the cohort will pass if 100% puts in the proper time. There is no curve here and no score competition either.

That being said they do also send out notices later than that if students decline for whatever reason. I have friends that were accepted as late as late october/early november...kind of annoying considering they had to scramble to get loans/visas etc. but they're in med school now so it was worth it 🙂
