I wasn't sure where to post this question but seeing as I am applying into post bacc programs this coming fall, I figured I'd post it here.

When people post their stats and give a number of how much they've shadowed or volunteered - is there a way to prove that? Because in the past when I shadowed physicians and pharmacists, I just made arrangements and showed up. Should I have had them sign a paper or fill out a form?

I'm just curious so I know this for the future. Thank you.

No forms or documentation are necessary. All you have to do is report your activities with integrity.

Do they value work in a hospital setting? If so, is it all kinds or just work with patients?

To the OP: You won't have to verify anything. It is indeed just based on integrity. Just make sure you don't make any "mistakes" when reporting your hours or duties -- you'd be surprised who knows who in the academic medical community.

To the dastardly thread pirate: Hospital is fine, but may not always be your best option. The more patient contact (and generally the most altruistic), however, the better. Be open minded. Consider free clinics, needle exchanges (depending on your state) and mobile health clinics in underserved areas. These are the kinds of things that make you stand out.
