Totally cool and deserves its own spot on your application. It could also be tagged as Leadership rather than "volunteer, non-clinical" with a good description that covers th fact that it was funded, and involved direct involvemwnt with members of the local community.

Hey all,

I have a question about whether something counts as volunteer experience. I co-lead a small team that won a grant (~7k) from my institution to build an organization that elevated artists in a low-income part of my community... gave them platforms to sell their art and overall give a positive message about their community. I worked about 200 hours on this project, was not paid, just did it because we saw a need, won the funding (and it was fun!). Wasn't going to include it on my application, as it's kind of confusing to explain and I have other volunteer stuff, but wondered if I should count it toward volunteering. And yes, I worked directly with people from those communities (not just all from my desk). Thanks!

Super cool!
