Okay, so of course I have no acceptances and i am not on any waitlists... haven't even had an interview yet, but a friend and I havev a question. We applied early, so lets say (if we are lucky) I get excepted to a school in October or November, but waitlisted for a dream school, or haven't been invited for an interview from a dream school, is there someone to put off accepting at the Oct./Nov. school?? I mean, how does this work exactly? Can I accept, then lose my deposit if I get in to a dream school in June???

So basically, you can hold as many acceptances as you want until May 15. After that, you can stay on as many waitlists as you want but you can't hold more than one acceptance (so the big waitlist movement typically starts right after 5/15). Schools have different timing as to when you have to pay the deposit, IIRC. However, after May 15, if you get in off the waitlist, you will definitely lose your deposit at the school you were accepted at. Before May 15, you may lose your deposit, or you may not, depending on the timing. Med school deposits aren't a huge amount of money, though, like Dental schools, so it's not THAT big a deal, esp since it means you're getting into a school you really want to go to.

I think for many programs, if you apply ED you can only apply to that particualr school. That is, at least until you are notified of the adcom's decision. If you are rejected or waitlisted, then you have the chance to apply to other programs as well; caveat being that applying as late as Oct. or Nov. will put you somewhere near the bottom heap of the pile of applications, so you'd have little chance at rolling admissions schools. The good thing about ED is that you're competing with a smaller number of people, so you have a good chance. There are many pros and cons of ED, but if you get accepted somewhere, I wouldn't exactly describe that as being a problematic situation.
