What's up SDN,

I have a question about state of residency.

So I'm from NJ, grew up there, so I'm a NJ resident.
However, I heard that you just need to live somewhere for a year before you can be considered a resident of that state for the purposes of applications.
I did a post-bacc program in NY, and for my gap year, I will be living in NYC.

So, can I apply to NY schools as an in-state resident, and to NJ schools as being an in-state resident?

You have to pick one state for amcas.

Every state is different for their requirements and in terms of tuition it is up to the registrar usually.

Each state has different rules for changing your residency in the eyes of the universities. More than likely you would need to work full time in New York, change your driver's license/registration/voter's registration to NY and file taxes in NY. Even then it's not a sure thing. If you're applying this upcoming cycle you will be considered IS for Jersey. You could express your interest in changing your residency to NY in your essays though.
