Hello everyone,

I am thinking of withdrawing from my math class and retaking it at a community college over the summer but I do not know if I should do this even though it is a math class. What do you think I should do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This is the one case where withdrawing is a bad idea. Adcoms are not dumb and they will know you withdrew so that you could get a better grade at a CC. If you know you won't get a B or C then you can withdraw and take the class again at the university you currently attend at a later date.

If it is your only "W," I doubt many adcoms will notice or care.

Having the withdrawal isn't going to be the end of the world. It might negatively affect your application, but it's hard to say if it will affect it more or less than doing poorly in the course (unless you think you're going to fail the course. Then, withdraw).

If anything, you should be able to explain why you decided to retake the course at a CC, in case you're asked at an interview. It's unlikely they'll ask, but it's possible and you should have an explanation that's not "it was too hard at my school."
