Hello SDN,

Have you ever heard of Beth Healthcare? (www.bethhealth.com)
It is a Program located in Irvine that provides Pre-meds an alternative in MD degree, but in China with allowance to practice in US.

Requirements:

With a bachelor's degree obtained or expected
Complete all premed courses (prerequisite courses)
1 academic year of biology with lab
1 academic year of physics with lab
1 academic year of general chemistry with lab
1 academic year of organic chemistry with lab
At least 1 academic year of English, including grammar and composition
MCAT (optional)
GPA: No minimum or maximum
Final admission acceptance is subject to screening of the application form, evidential documents and interview.

After getting accepted to this program, and graduate from your 4 year University, you get to Study in China in one of the top 10 meds school and get a MD degree.

Did any of you hear about this program?

looks like a scam. Basically an MBBS is the medical degree given in countries like UK, India, etc. If one really wanted to, all you would have to do is complete medical school abroad and "convert" your degree by passing the exam.

it's no different than any other foreign school. You will attain your medical degree abroad, take the USMLE and be allowed to practice in the US if you are succesful in the match (IMGs have an overall 48% match rate) and then go on to complete a residency/licensing exams. This program confers no special US accreditation, and it will only get harder in the next decade for IMGs to match, so steer clear of programs like this.

If I had to go the foreign route as a last resort, I'd go to a Caribean school as at least they are taught to the USMLE, and modeled after American medical education. Ideally, go to college, do as well as possible and if necessary do an SMP, retake the MCAT, do more research etc. to get into a US school.

I agree with you two, this program is no different than any other foreign school: you study abroad, China, and get a degree which is "converted" to US degree by doing the same exam (USMLE and others).
But i wouldn't agree about being scam, it's just another alternative of becoming a Doctor and being able to practice in US by doing the equivalences.
However, don't you think that thanks/cause to globalization this kind of programs would be more frequent in the near future? And more people will be able to participate in residency in the US or other foreign country?
For me sounds fantastic.. what do you think? :/

It ends with ".com"

Am I the only one that feels like the OP is stealth advertising?

no, you are not.

You might be right, but i'm just trying to pull up some ideas/comments or see if this kind of program is a scam or else... Since its too good to be truth.. :/
But you guys are not being helpful, just trying to bring down my question/thread.. 🙁

This program was advertised at St. Mary Medical Center, Long Beach for the interns that are volunteering there...

I'm guessing nobody did hear about this program.. which doesn't sound that good. Thank you anyways..

You're getting your "degree" in China. What's too good to be true?

That doesn't mean what you think it means. If we're right, it's about your intentions posting here, and not the nature of the program you're discussing. That said, seriously, it's just like any other foreign medical degree program. There is nothing special about the program you've brought up and it will not stand up to an U.S. M.D. in terms of competitiveness for residencies.

Well, I apologize first that i did not specify the good things about this program,
Basically, in overall:
- No need for MCat
- Cheaper education fee
- You get to study one of the top 10 med school in china
- Dorm in a hotel, paying $500-600 per month (if i'm not wrong)
- Get to do Residency in NY on your 5th year and place you in any other residency in the US as well.
- Small classes consisting of 30+ students
There is much more... that's why i thought that this program is too good to be true... :/

This is the reason, that i post a thread, i learn new things when i ask questions, i did not know that residencies positions are super competitive. The program did not say anything about being hard to get a residency in US. They just say that they provide you a position in the US, NY, which i doubt it if the residency applications are competitive...
And then some people might have similar questions about this thread
By the way, i did not mean to stealth advertise or being rude or anything.. just asking, curious about this alternative in my future education, since i like travelling and learning different cultures and languages.
Thank you for your input.

The bolded is not true. You aren't doing "residency" in NY...they just have some sort of clinical rotations deal where you rotate in NY that year (no different than any other carib school that are 2 years on island 2 years in the US).

The "no-MCAT" score is the policy of many foreign schools, and who cares what the med school is ranked in China? None of the listed benefits (most of which are not actually benefits) outweighs the difficulties you will face in the match coming from a Chinese medical school.

The only case in which you should be concerned with what medical schools are good outside of the United States is if you intend to practice outside of the United States. This program sounds like a great opportunity for someone who wants to be a doctor in China. Want to practice in this country? Stop looking for alternative routes into medicine right now.

(Also agree with what patel said)
