What's a good question to ask them at the very end?

I dont want to sound as if I've not researched the course/uni or ask a question i SHOULD know.

Don't ask me! I had no idea! I just didn't ask any questions, which i know is bad, but i had the same worries as you!

Good luck with today and tomorrow (?i think)

I don't necessarily want to give away my secret interview weapon... 😉 But I tend to think if you can find a (polite, very humble) way to ask them to sell *you* on the school, you might get good info that's not in all the web pages and whatnot. Ask what they think of the student population there. Or ask why they chose that school for *their* job (this is tricky, in academics you don't always have multiple job offers to choose from, so they might have "chosen" based on that being the only offer they had; major honesty/openness bonus points if they actually tell you that).

I think the thing to keep in mind is, you want to know this school is right for you, not just impress them. Assume for a minute you get in to all the schools at which you interview... what would help you choose between them?

You can ask..
what it takes to come back and teach at the college
what the teacher turnover/retention rate is
how much do textbooks cost
do you see HMOs becoming the future of veterinary medicine
any plans to improve/upgrade the school
what do they think the biggest obstacles to 1st years are
how likely 4th years are to do externships or residencies...these are non-school specific, im sure you can come up with school specific question:

Does Dr. Smith regularly give symposiums? his area of research is so juicy.

I notice the college has a tradition of doing _____. Are there any 'secret insider' traditions (i.e. a yearly prom, or kareoke get togethers)?
