I was wondering if it is recommend to use a q bank along side during my systems. I start MSK and Neuro this semester. If so, should I start with something like Rx and switch to Uworld second year? Any help is greatly appreciated!

...apologies if this is a similar post. I did a quick search, but honestly didn't have the time to look in depth.

When would you suggest switching from Rx to UWorld?
I'm no expert. I started UWorld around Winter break because I plan to do it twice. Some people do not believe in doing it twice but the way my school is set up makes doing it this way the best solution.

Depends on how slow you are. Second year is usually a good time. Some schools really pack the curriculum in 4th semester, so waiting till winter break could burn you if your school does this.

Save uworld for second winter break of second year. Start it then. Finish it before dedicated, then reset it and do it all again. Rx is a great one for first year

I second doing Uworld twice. I started Uworld with systems at the beginning of second year. Reset it at the beginning of dedicated. Uworld isn't a diagnostic tool it's a learning resource and arguably has the best explanations and diagrams out of any step 1 resource. I feel like you are at a disadvantage if you don't start Uworld early.

I personally used COMBANK and Kaplan if I was doing questions for systems-based blocks. I only used UWorld for timed-random, all subjects.

The issue im running into, is that I just don't know when I have time for this. Or when to begin using World on random etc. I have required lecture which significantly hinders my time. That's what I am trying to figure out I guess.

I would recommend waiting to do timed random blocks until you hit dedicated.

I wish I would’ve started UW with corresponding systems and just kept hammering them out over and over. But even beginning of second year would’ve been good. I saved it for spring break of second year and I regret it. I thought it offered the most bang for its buck in learning that I wish I could’ve done it another time

So you would suggest using Uworld from day one of the first system? I know people on here utilize many banks and get through them. I just don't see how I will have time to go through more than one qbank. I would like to get through Uworld twice, so I might just start that with our first system.

It’s all preference. Do some kind of qbank and make sure it includes UW. If you want to only do one then just do UW. I did combank for systems then switched to UW at spring break. In hindsight this was stupid because I saw the major learning deficits once I switched and it felt a little late. I did decently with my plan. I just feel that I personally would’ve been better getting through UW would’ve been better.

Thanks for the response. I guess I will just have to make a decision and roll with it. I'm thinking that I might just start with UW during systems. Then reset during dedicated with the goal of getting through it twice.
