Hi, I have interviewed at the University of Maryland, and loved it! I also have heard that the students develop great skills clinically. I am an out of state student, and I wanted to hear from a current dental student there.

*What do you feel is most unique about the school?
*What is the benefit of taking the boards after your first year?
*Does this school offer the WREB?
*What helped you decide on this school?
*How do students from the west coast like the school?

*What do you feel is most unique about the school?

The school is first dental college in the world, and also happens to be the most technological. The curriculum is constantly evolving to adapt to these technologies. Each class has a curriculum chair that provides input to the administration about what's working and what's not working, and the administration goes from there.


*What is the benefit of taking the boards after your first year?

Taking boards after 1st year allows the D2 curriculum to focus heavily on pre-clinical courses instead of basic sciences. I think it takes some of the stress off and allows one to put more attention into the lab coursework.


*Does this school offer the WREB?

Not sure. The school teaches to, and offers, the NERB.


*What helped you decide on this school?

The students and faculty all seemed happy when I interviewed. This was really what put Maryland at the top of my list. Don't let anyone tell you that dental school is fun; so being surrounded by a positive, friendly group may be the only thing keeping you level. I think Dr. Meehan did a fantastic job of picking a cohesive class.



*How do students from the west coast like the school?

Three of my really good friends in the class are from California, 2 from SoCal, 1 from NorCal. All 3 enjoy the school.

A school doesn't have to offer a region's boards in order for you to practice in that region. There are Cali kids in my class that plan on moving back to practice after graduation. Just an FYI.
