First year IM resident in the south looking to transfer back home to the northeast (wife and I expecting number 4 and really need to be near family for help). How do I go about doing this? Do I need to go through ERAS and the NRMP again? I contacted a few programs about coming in as a second year july 2012 and they have all said we don not have any spots. Help appreciated thanks.

You'd obviously be better off with a PGY-2 spot. It's very early to be looking for PGY-2 spots, as programs will only have one if a PGY-1 decides not to continue training, fails out, quits, etc. Usually you want to start asking for PGY-2 spots in December or usually after the winter holidays. You certainly can look at the match, but that would require that you repeat your PGY-1 which seems pointless. If you have a decent PD, they will help you with the transfer.
