Hey guys..
I got my acceptance from BU, with the package I recieved a sponsership from to sign. Do any of you know who should sign this paper. I am planning to recieve 2 loans, one from Canhelp, and the other from Royal bank. At the bottom of this form is writte that this amount should show on the pay stub fo the sponser, and 5000 for any additional dependents. Can you guys help me with this. I mean I have a co-signer so I can get loans, but He doesnt make 72000 American(42000 tution, + living).
In Canada this amount is roughly about 120000 dollars.
Also for Bu students, does it really cost 30000 for living for 1 year. or is this a rough estimate. thanks

I certainly hope that's an EXTREMELY generous estimate. I'm living comfortably on less than half that, and cost-of-living differences aren't THAT dramatic.

From what I know of boston, that is fairly accurate. It is one of, if not the most expensive cities on the east coast. I have 2 friends who go to school up there and it is ridiculous what the cost of living is in boston.

I think you are forgetting about the instrument fees. Tuition + Instruments etc comes to about 50,000 US.
As for the exchange rates, Canadian dollars are very strong right now. 72,000 US is probably about 100,000 Canadian right now.

I dont know how accurate Tufts' estimation is, but they allocate about 16-19k for living expenses depending on which year of schooling you're in.

that 30,000 is probably in Canadian for one thing. We're (US resident BU Students) allocated about 17,000 a year. I'm living a decent life with it, I make monthly trips to Foxwoods (Casino in CT) and lose about 300 bucks but still live comfortably. I live alone by the way so I'm not splitting anything with anyone.

That's a lot of money you're paying😱

30k for living expenses is very high...

perhaps they are including transportation, food, and entertainment???

Yeah, but still...$2500 a month? Yeesh.

I will be going to Boston this summer for a research fellowship and I spoke with the secretary for housing and she told me average rent for 1 bedroom apartment = 1600-1800/month

Wow. Vive la Midwest, I suppose. I'm living in a 6-room, 1-bedroom apartment by myself for $350, thanks to my move-in promotion.

At Marquette the most I ever paid for a large studio was 405$ a month!

$$16-1800 for rent?? The monthly mortgage payment in my 1000sqf downtown montreal apartment is not even half that! 😱

Yeah, but you have to put up with all of those frenchies!

yup...and the -20degree winters that doesnt end till april!!

but seriously...my old mortgage for downtown apartment in vancouver (falsecreek waterfront, 2 bedroom + den) was only about 1/3 of the rent in BU as well 😛

I had no idea living expenses in Boston is so astronomical. I figured only in Manhattan or SF you would pay those type of rents for a small apt.

It's not 1600-1800 a month for a 1 br. You can find one for that price but most are in the 1100-1400 range. I pay 900 for a hole in the wall.

I live in a nice place, neighbor is a nobel laureate, and my one bedroom apt here in SF costs $1,200 with parking. I'm wondering how nice Boston can be to be that expensive

tinker bell is always looking down on BU and Boston in general, and always has such a negative view in regards to BU and Boston, geez, I mean, come on, there is no need to look down on things that you don't know much about. This is not the first time I read a post by tinker bell which has such a negative tone that serves no good to anyone.

First of all, being condescending and negative is not cute.

Secondly, just because you are happy in SF and your perception of your own life is great in SF doesn't not mean life is sh*tty every where else in the world. Sorry to burst your bubble.

It would be great to compare and contrast everyone's living situations and circumstances so we can all learn and give each other advice and tips, but it is not cool to be unnecessarily negative for no purpose.

Oh, and as if all the Bostonians living here are so dumb for living in such a crappy city and paying outrageous rents for no reason when they can live in SF right? Ick. Ick times ten.
Regards,

Hey there slick, this entire board is full of *opinions*. And she's free to say she dislikes Boston and/or BU as much as she likes as long as she's civil about it, and I've never seen a post from her that wasn't perfectly polite. Can't say the same for you.

well, there was another thread about BU, and she went on and on how no one should go there, because from her friend's experiences that BU is such a terrible place where everyone is an "elitist" and "everyone" knows someone in the admission office, etc.
And the list can go on and on but I won't go into it here.
So my response wasn't just from this one particular response of hers.
I didn't mean to offend, *grin*

of course she is entitled to her opinion. And I am not trying to be slick at all, it just makes me sad when someone assumes too much, okay, I will stop here.

peace to all.

Why does tinkerbell hate boston so much? Is she referring to the city or BU in particular?

That's funny how you guys can fancy up your imagination. I have no care about Boston, BU, or Tufts. I don't give a hoot about it.
I just gave my opinion. It's that if people say SF is the most expensive place, why am I paying cheaper than Boston? That's all.

Regarding my post about BU, I don't know BU, I just know from my friends, who are D2, D3, & D4 there. They told me what I knew. So, I posted what I know to help those who need to make decision. Who cares what BU does. I don't go there, none of my relatives go there. I ran away from a BU dentist, that was good enough for me. That's all I care. And I wasn't the only one on this board who had unpleasant experience with BU dentist. Another dentist had his opinion about BU dentist too

 😱

People have unpleasant experiences with dentists everyday, from UCSF to Columbia to tinbuktu.

I bet your friends at BU love when you talk ****e about their school. And don't give us bull about I'm only telling you what they said. If you don't give a hoot about Boston then just tell facts, don't give attitude.
