Question for DO students applying both allo and osteo

I know that the NMS match comes first and withdraws you from the NRMP match if you match DO, but can you apply to both DO and MD programs, and then decide to simply not rank any DO programs? I hate to be the first to admit it, but I'm applying to DO residencies as a safety net in case I don't get interviews at the MD residencies I want.

Yes, just don't rank the osteopathic programs and you will not match at an osteopathic program. This will leave you open for the allopathic match.
