For you interns and juniors out there, when you moved to your new base did the USAF set up the movers or did you set it up yourselves and then get reimbursed?

Second question: Is there a book allowance in most programs? I'm going to Lackland surgery.

Thanks.

It has nothing to do with being an AF intern. Moving in the military is moving in the military. The military will move you from civilian life to active duty, around on active duty, and then from active duty back to civilian life.

You have three options when you do a household goods (HHG) shipment. You can have the military contract the movers, pack up your stuff, ship it, store it until you arrive, and then deliver it to your home. You can do a "self-procured" move, where you contract the movers and the military reimburses you (not to exceed the gov't procured option) The third option is a do-it-yourself (DITY) move, where you rent the U-Haul, pack it up yourself, etc. Most members use the first option (easiest), but a fair amount do DITY moves (usually puts a bit of cash in your pocket).

In any event, you will be working with the local transportation office (not necessarialy the same service as you if you are nowhere near an AF base) and they will authorize you for whatever type of move you do.

happy truckin'...... :)
