I go to school at UT, in Austin, and I have a question about applying for pharm tech jobs. I already have my license, and I want to look for a job in Austin. But the problem is, I'm not going back to school until the end of August, and it isn't really possible for me to go to Austin before then. However, I wanted to get a head start on looking for a job, since tons of other people are probably going to be looking for the same job once they get down there too.
My question is, is it okay to call pharmacies now (even though it's pretty early--about five weeks before I'm getting there) and ask if they might be looking for techs anytime soon? I know it's ideal to do these kinds of things in person, but do you think it's okay for me to just call them now?
This might be kind of a dumb question, but I'm just paranoid. lol🙂 Thanks in advance!

I think it's ok, since some places have a special place on an application where they ask you when you can start.

Apply, whether it's in person or online, but follow up with them in person. It makes such a huge difference when you follow up in person rather than on the phone. And ask to speak to the hiring pharmacy manager when you do follow up. It's key for them to see you in person, how you look, how you talk, your body language, how you carry yourself. Like any job, they like to see that you're interested in the position. I applied for my job through a paper application, just because they didn't have one online. But I asked to see the hiring pharmacy manager, and he gave me an application, and the next day I submitted it, in person, to him, and he told me he'd look over my application (I added my own resume too, even though they didn't ask for it), and give me a call in a week. I though to myself, yeah right. He's not gonna call. But I was wrong; exactly one week later, he gave me a call, got an interview, and hired me on the spot. And I've been working there for over a year and a half now.
