Do a lot of you plan to hit the ground running and intend to be gunners from day 1? Just curious. I don't think I want to specialize, but then again I don't want to close that door just yet.

My plan is to do the best that I can do with the time I have. I'm a mom so I'm honestly nervous about having the time to do everything. :-/ So...I'm gonna study as much as I can and hope for good grades, etc. but a gunner...I can't say I see that happening. Lol I don't have an interest in specializing. I'm older (28, 29 in September) and don't want to lose more time with my kids. I really hope I don't have any over the top type of "gunners" in my class that will step on others to get to the top, but I'd say there's likely a few in every class. :-/

same here. I don't have any serious plans for specializing but i'll try to do my best in my classes; you never know whats out there waiting for you.

I am going to do the best I can, I am going to a pass/fail school too. I know it may be harder to specialize but I want to try and keep that possibility there, even though I am leaning towards general practice.

It is one of those things you don't really know until you get there. Obviously we are all trying to get good grades and do well in dental school, but we also have to be realistic and balance our lives. If all I did was study as hard as I could to get the best grades possible, I would personally rip my hair out before I got to there. The point being, I am going to focus on enjoying my time in dental school, while focusing very hard on doing well in school, and also focusing on doing things I enjoy outside of school. A well balanced life will help keep me happy and in turn, will help manage my stress which will then allow me to do well in school. It comes full circle.
