Question for the Desi's (ind+pak students)!!!!

Im just about to send my transcript to get evaluated bye wes and ece just incase one of them is better than the other...now all u desi's know that getting marks over 60% is usually pretty hard to do and like 70% in my university earns a distinction award which is really really good. So i wanna know from anyone who has already sent in there transcript and got a GPA what was ure pecentage like overall approximately... and what GPA did that translate into. I just wanted to get a rough idea so i what i could kinda expect for my gpa i'm averaging aroudn 64 percent througout all years which is quite good for my university as most people barely scrape by wiht 50% i think the grading in india is quite similar taht's why i'm askin all of u...i did my BDS from pakistan so any pakis can help me out too 😀 If you have any info that could help me thanks a lot!!!!

the word "desi" comes from "desh" which means country/nation in the Hindi language.so when we say "desi" it means "from the country/ nation".

Could not figure out the evaluation process myself ,but i had % in the range of 68- 71 through all four years of dental school(India) , they've(ECE) given me an 'A' on all subjects and a GPA of 4. 😕

Thanks for the help GKG...wow thats' a perfect GPA...well let's see how mine comes out i hope it's a 3. something?!?! that's what i'm expecting...

Hi Khurram,
My overall percentage was 68 and my gpa by ece is 3.91
Though I checked out all the info regarding gpa and its not a direct translation of your marks.It takes into consideration your dental school and other criterias too.

i'm gonna send to both ece and wes to see which one gives a better GPA...is there any criteria that you know of in specific besides acutal marks that could help increase my GPA...i have had my college write on my transcript that 60% marks earned equals first division which would be an "A". ..i hope that helps a little bit in some way 😕

The gpa thing is tricky.I really dont think the school matters .What matters is the criteria set for each countries.Precisely ,they might have a list of universities (highly improbable though) and countries listed to meet the criteria.Like some one posted here that 68-71 transalated to A.If they went by American standards that would only be a LP(low pass).So the rule of thumb is not established .I do know that number of attempts count,as it is evident when they even ask for record of all failures too.WES seems to be lenient on the attempt issue.But ,its validity is also limited.I did try to ask them sometime back how this was done,got a very vague answer ,which I assume is because of the fact the person on phone is either not familiar with it or that they are not allowed to talk.In most cases if you all notice ,as long as you passed in first attempt they end up getting evaluated to 3.0 plus ,which is good .Now ,this is just a pragmatic approach that I did to find out how this whole thing worked.So,disclaimer attached.
Also,I liked the Desi Arnaz part.

Thank BBGUN for the help...i know that number of attempts counts especially with ECE that's why i wanna send it to WES instead...cuz in my final year i had to repeat two final exams and i know that's gonna hurt my GPA...so what do they just end up giving u a flat out 0 for those papers?!?!? it's really unfair cuz in foreign countries like pakistan the professor can choose to fail u for whatever reason he wants whether u actually answered all the questions in the oral exam correctly doesn't matter sometimes that's a sad reality of these places. I was failed by two external professors cuz they didn't like the fact that I spoke english well and that I had a goatee. That's not even a joke that's the absolute truth! so let's see what happens...by the way does WES ask you to send results for failed exams as well? As far as i can remember in there criteria is was not listed. And does anyone know where WES is not accepted??!?!?! people have been asking all over the place but no one wants to look up each college seperately and find out!!!! not even me!!!! 😱 😱 😱

hey khurram,you're a absolutely right about ece's evaluation affecting your gpa due to no. of attempts.i personally know friends whose gpa was dragged down because of the same reason.....u should definitely go the wes route....
by the way ,i totally believe u about the professors acting the way they did,during my final yr. my external examiner was more interested in what my dad does for a living and making smart a## comments.....ended up giving me a really low score.....like you said that's the sad reality of some places back home....(including india) but don't worry,things will work out.....all the best for part 1 and applications.....

Yeah Khurram.That part of the world sux when it comes to things like that.I did have problems too,just coz' I sound American.It was a hassle ,but then it was not too surprising as I had been warned about such things.Goatee aint' cool at all dawg.Oral examination is like stepping into a hostile battleground.I always tell my folks I served my time when I left America for few yrs.
About,the other querries,I do know all the private schools on east coast do accept WES.But ,I am not sure about state schools.Like I've said in an earlier post,maybe you can work your way around that.Which fairly means you are stuck to very few schools.So,you might need to do lot of homework on that.Assuming you are in US,you should call each place you propose to apply personally and chek with them.

Hi dent i'm leavin for new york tongiht!!! i'm so excited to finally be going back home...and i also wanna shop shop shop! but i gotta take this stupid exam first haha!!! my prep is going well...like i said i only used kaplan for DA not for anyting else AT ALL...my prep is purely from the decks and old exams...let's see i'll be a guniea pig and we can test by my results how good of a score u can get by not using anyting besides the decks and kaplan!!! hahah take care talkt o you soon

sorry guys that post above was supposed to be sent to dent2003 as a pm i posted in in this trhead by accident..but to everyone else now u know when i'm leaving and giving my exam 😀 thanks mmm and bbgun for ure help...just pray that my gpa result comes back at least a 3.0...so BBGUN does WES want u to send any failed mark sheets as well or just the final ones in which you pass do u have any idea? i check with BU they accept any evaluation adn i have yet to find a school that doesn't take WES...so things are lookin pretty good...I really want to go to BU anyways or NYU and they both take WES....peace

my marks in BDS varied between 60 to 70 % over 4 years. my GPA was 3.53 i got mostly A's few B's and one or 2 C's in different subjects evaluated in course by course report from 1st year to 4th year.

Firstly, All the best for your exam....sorry if I'm late 😛 .anyways, when it comes to the evaluation agency, there are just a handful of schools that accept WES.Almost all schools accept ECE .In the west coast there are a few schools that accept evaluations from WES along with a few that accept reports from some evaluators called AACRAO...I haven't got much idea about AACRAO tho'.
The schools that accept WES are(that I know of 🙂 )(please do confirm again):
Tufts
Loma linda
BU (no specifications regd evaluation agency)
U of pittsburg (--"--)
CWRU (official dental school transcripts+ undergrad transcripts)
NOVA
UOP
Columbia

If anyone knows of any other schools that accept WES, please add-on to this list for the benefit of everyone.
ECE is the most universally accepted evaluation by far.

Thanks lasjy for the info...did u get ures done by ECE or WES? and if you dont mind me asking did u ahve to repeat any exams? If u read my earlier post u know that i got screwed over by some teachers during the vivas and had to repeat two papers that 's why i wanted to do wes!

i got it done by ECE. i got low marks in a few subjects which led to one or 2 C's in my ECE report. but i never failed in any subject for 4 years thankfully.

i got marks average like yours and my gpa is 3.68 so it would be somewhere around that 😀 .
