Hey Ladies and Gents,
I am a pharmacy student and have been asked to talk about emergence agitation. I understand that it can be classified as excitability upon waking from anesthesia. Can you provide me with a better description of what happens. I also know that this effect is more likely with some anesthetic agents than others. I would just like a good description of this and how you deal with it.

I would be glad to comment on this but it is a broad topic. I have not really seen much emergence delerium/agitation in my experience. I know that sevo has been blamed in the peds population but I don't see it. I do give narcotics (Morphine to be specific in this population) to prevent it which works well.

So I advise you to do some research on the topic and then if you have specific questions, ask them here. Good Luck.
