i know this is probably addressed in some past fafsa-related topic...but for those of you who have done it, how did you get your parents' info on there? did you give your parents your same pin # and just have them go online and fill in their stuff, or do they somehow need to get their own pin? my parents are not done with their taxes yet, so i wanted them to just be able to go to the online form and put their own info in. thanks guys...

I think you can just type in their info. That's what I'm going to do as soon as I stop procrastinating and get it done 🙂 I sat down with them and filled out the fafsa worksheet using their 1040 forms....also, dont forget to check the new financial aid forum.

You talk to them and get their info. Then you put it in yourself. You let them estimate based on last year whatever they don't know. You are ultimately responsible for everything put into that form. They can't put in their own information.

get both parents' 1040s, from this year if they've done it or from last year if not. most of the info you need is on there. then you have to ask them about farm/investment/401K stuff.

it's really fun. let me tell you.

or you can be like me and not put in that info. some schools will require that information and others maybe not. some schools have a separate form for parents. woo hoo. give them as little info as possible.

i had to submit my fafsa by march 1st because of one school's deadline, and my parents' tax info wasn't ready yet, so i just submitted my own. you can add your parents' info later if you want, but since aid is calculated off your own info (since we're considered independent at this stage), your own info is the priority. it's generally a bad idea to estimate numbers because if the fafsa people suspect *anything* is amiss, you may be asked to undergo 'verification'--kind of like an audit. it happened to me one year during college and it can hold up the processing of your fafsa app. additionally, some schools refuse to consider fafsas based on 'estimated' numbers. so it's best to wait until you have the real numbers.
