Im currently going to a community college majoring in biology and getting all the prereqs to transfer to a university in california soon.

I met someone else who was going another route. He came from a university to a community college in hopes of transferring directly into a pharmacy program like the ones offered directly out of highschool.

Is that possible? and if so, please expplain!

Yes it is possible. But, I believe, the chances to do this are pretty slim.

For example. The St. Louis College of Pharmacy (STLCOP) accepts directly out of high school and is a 6 year program which includes the 2 year pre-pharmacy curriculum in it already. They accept mainly people directly out of high school and only accept a mere 3-4 students to transfer from a university (or CC) into their program and put them into the 3rd year, which is the real start of the pharmacy curriculum, similar to the first year of any 2-4 pharmacy school.

I am not sure about anyone being able to transfer from a university (or CC) into the FIRST year of the 6 year programs along with the kids fresh out of high school.

Hope this helps

Yah well im getting my prepharmacy curriculums done already. Can someone name some schools within cali that have a 0-6 yr plan that also accept people from cc?

I believe the only pre-pharm program in CA is UoP. It's not possible to transfer coming from a college. It specifically states on their site that the pre-pharm program is only for students right out of high school. Just finish up your pre-reqs and start applying! Best of luck.

LOL. You're basically describing my route. I originally attended UCSD after high school. After one year, I decided to go back to community college to take my pre-reqs. Now I'm currently applying to pharmacy school and I INTEND to be accepted and attend Fall 2010. You can see from my list of schools that I am not applying to a single California school. Most California schools require you to have a 4-year degree before matriculation.

So you're already applying for schools? Good luck man. Was wondering what classes you have taken so far and are taking right now.

What have I got to do to be ready for pharm school? I don't want to take the long route out either but at the rate I'm going, it seems already too late. Do pharm schools care if you take 4 yrs to transfer from a jc to the school itself without a degree?

I have currently completed the following courses:
Chem 1, Bio 1 and 2, Calc 1 and 2. I plan on taking the other prereqs as soon as possible as well as study for my PCATs. The main question that keeps coming up is that Im doubting myself alot because it feels I've stayed at the community college too long and I won't be able to transfer directly into a pharmacy school.

my biggest fear has to be that I might be staying here too long. Ive missed out on joining any of the main chem / physics class that I need due to a really bad class sign up date and so my last hopes are to petition to get in. Please tell me if it matters on how long I stay in a college for

As far as I can tell, it only matters how LONG you've been in the college if you're taking a low unit load, especially with a CC. You've got to realize that, realistically, there IS a negative stigma associated with a CC. If the AdCom sees you taking one or two classes a semester that are pertinent to your pre-pharmacy coursework, their eyebrows may be raised and curiosity may be piqued.

That said, if you can't get into the classes, and your petition(s) fails, then just try to take another class that will at least look like a serious course. This was advice given to me by Veronica Semler at Pacific, so she knows what she's talking about.

First, PCAT is singular. There is only one PCAT. Pharmacy College Admission Test. Not plural.

Don't doubt yourself. We all have different routes to pharmacy school. Out of all the "schools" I've seen, pharmacy has one of, if not the most, diverse non-traditional applicant base. Like I said before, the number of sems/qtrs at a CC is immaterial - It's what classes you take during those terms that matters. If you have 12 semesters but every semester you took 3 or 4 heavy-duty science courses w/ labs, no one will even look at that as negative, it'd be impossible, right? Obviously that was a little exaggeration to illustrate the point. Stop fretting about time and focus on getting As, because if you have only a couple pertinent classes a term AND you only have Cs in them, that'll be much worse than only a couple pertinent classes, but they're As.

Just my 6 pence.
