I grew up in NJ and have lived in RI for the past 5 years. Vanderbilt is one of the only schools that I'm considering applying to in cities that I have never visited. I'd be very interested in hearing your feedback on Nashville/Vanderbilt as a place to live, especially if you're not from that area. My main concern is that in the little free time/days off that I'd have as a med student, there wouldn't be much do to outside of the Nashville area. I realize that there is probably easy access to hiking and camping facilities in Tennessee, but that's not really my cup of tea.

you know, when i went to nashville for my interview, i was expecting this big city with pro sports teams and millions of people, but that's not what i found. personally, i was turned off by nashville. it had a much more small-town atmosphere than i was expecting. i loved vanderbilt though. great school, great match list, happy students. the negatives for me about tennessee, though, would have been the region, the weather, the music, and the sense i got that there isn't too much to do in nashville.
