My sister in law is a 4th year med student in Malasia. She has no idea where to start for getting a license in the USA. Soon she'll be moving to the USA (once the Visa goes through).

Can you please let me know what to tell her as to where to start?

Thanks !

Your sis in law is a 4th year medical student. When is she going to USA? And do you mean working in USA permanently or as an elective during her medical years?

If she wants to apply for elective, I think she has to go through her medical school applying for elective oversea. She has to do her homework though, as to where she wants to do her elective and so forth.

As for working in USA, she has to follow the rules in USA. That means taking specific exams which is the USMLE. I'm sure she can get more information from the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) located near the KL General hospital.

Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me on this. It's been tough for her.

She's hopefully going to arrive in the USA within 6 months. Probably she'll work here permanently as my brother and she want to reside in the US.

So she should contact the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA)? Thanks for the tip. Anything you think of in the future, please let me know.

Thanks Doc.
