Hello guys,

I'm currently a senior at UCLA graduating in June. I applied to pharm schools in the summer but don't think I'll get in this year since it's so late in the cycle. I'm pretty much done with my major courses and am wondering if I could retake a class at UCLA that I received a C in.

However, we all know that in UC's- you can only retake a class that you recieved a C- in.

My question: Any students from ANY UC schools repeat a class at their UC school that didn't get a C- or lower?

If so, how does the UC system calculate that? I heard from somebody that it won't count towards your GPA but the grade will be there and it will say: UNAUTHORIZED REPEAT in your transcript. Is this true?

Also, how does that look for the PHARMCAS? Are Unauthorized repeats bad?

Last question- how does PHARMCAS calculate retaken classes anyways? Do they take the higher grade or average the two grades?

Thanks in advance.

No pharmcas does not recalculate repeated courses. The grades are added all together. If you can not take it at UCLA, try taking it at another UC. You can do open university or you can take it at a community college. Although, if you take it at a community college it is not as competitive but if its not a science course, it prob does not really matter

swanchick84,

you can retake classes for a better grade at UCLA if you can afford it. My advice is to take them at ucla extension for like $1000 less. i don't think though you can repeat a class that you got a "c" in.
the REPEAT will show up in your transcripts and PharmCAS will calculate your gpa with that old class. For schools like western, the admissions office will completely remove the old class and replace it with the new, repeated class. USc however takes in everything!!! they do not take the higher or or average the two.

Hi S.O.S.

Thanks for the response. I actually only have one more class to take for my major next quarter (spring). Therefore, I can retake 2 of my science classes here at UCLA for practically nothing (since I receive financial aid). I'm trying to retake as many classes as I can before I apply again in the summer 06. I'm also retaking classes in the summer at a community college.

make sure you can repeat a lot of classes before you send out your application to western because they do not recalculate your gpa once your application has been submitted.
