During the application process and once interview invites are sent out:

1. What is the interview scheduling process?

2. How soon after interview invites are sent out are interviews usually scheduled? Do schools vary widely in their timeline of sending invites and scheduling interviews?

3. Are interviews usually done on weekdays, or are weekend times available?

4. For those of you who went through the interview season while working full time, how did you accommodate for the time away from work when traveling for interviews?

The reason I'm asking is because I work full time and would have to request time off in order to travel. I don't think my boss would appreciate me requesting an off day every other week. I can't exactly say I'm interviewing for med school so I'm seeing what everybody's experience was for future reference. I'd appreciate any input, thanks!

1. Usually the school has a portal where you can click on a date that is convenient for you. However, there are schools where you either email or ask a admissions staff member to schedule a date for you.

2. This depends on the availability of the interviews. If they have a spot open the next week, then it is up to you if you want to take it. Usually most interviews are available 3 weeks from the II date and beyond.

3. It depends on the school. Most schools have dates on weekdays, but their are some that have them on Saturdays.

4. I can't comment on this since I work part-time and my employer was rather accommodating when I ask. YMMV.

At my school, it generally takes about six weeks after receipt of your secondary for the II to be sent.

Specific weekdays for us.

1. For my 2 interviews, they sent an email with the date and I just responded to the email to verify I would be there.

2. It varies between schools. My first interview gave me like 1.5 months notice and my second one let me know Tuesday for an interview that Friday. However, they said I could call and reschedule if needed which I was tempted to do but didn't because I was able to make arrangements and I wanted to know ASAP & they use rolling admissions

3. It varies, one interview was Saturday and the other was a Friday. Some school websites specify what days they do interviews on secondaries and on their websites

4. I am a part-time employee but I did swaps when needed since I work in an ER so it was not that big of a deal. Maybe let your employer know ahead of time that you may get a last minute notice to interview somewhere. P.S. Make sure you give yourself enough time in between flights and everything to get there on time even if traffic is bad or there is an accident or you get lost
