First off.
Based on solubility rules.

Ba 2+ cations are insoluble
CO3- anions are insoluble too.


BaCO3 (s) + HCl (aq) -> H2CO3 (aq) + BaCl2 (s)

H2CO3 will then convert instantly to H20 (l) + CO2 (g)

BaCO3 (s) + HCl (aq) -> H20 (l) + CO2 (g) + BaCl2 (s)

Net Ionic Equation only shows reacted ions not spectator ions..

so ...

NEI:

Ba^2+ (aq) + 2 Cl^1- (aq) ---> BaCl2 (s)
 
I revived this thread because I have trouble with this reaction and apparently others do as well.

The actual reaction is:
BaCO3(s) + HCl(aq) > BaCl2(s) + CO2(g) + H2O(l)

This part of a question on Topscore and what I'm wondering is how can I predict that this reaction forms CO2 and H2O? Ortho says that H2CO3 converts instantly to H2O +CO2 but why? Why I tell you?
