Would medical school still consider your grade for a Pre req class that you took in which you have ap credit for already?
In my case I received credit for ap physics but I'm taking the course in college again this semester to satisfy the requirements. However I won't get credit for that class since my ap credit covers that already. Because of this my grade in physics won't be included in my gpa but the grade I receieve in that class will show up on my transcript. Will medical school still use my grade in physics when they recalculate my gpa?

If the course shows up as 0 credits on your transcripts, then probably not. Otherwise, I think it would be included in your AMCAS GPA.

The grade that i got and the credit that the class is worth will show up on my transcript. However it won't be included into my overall credit and gpa since i already earned ap credit for the course. Would med school still consider this fulfilling the pre reqs?

I think that they would count this course towards the completion of your pre-requisites even though it isn't factored into your transcript grade. The grade, however, will be counted into your AMCAS GPAs which are the only ones schools care about (i don't think they even see your transcript GPA).

It depends on the school. The only one that I've heard of that won't take AP credits is Vanderbilt. Even if they show up on your transcript and count at your school, it's possible that the med school won't accept it. So I'd look into the policies at each of the schools you're interested in applying to.

so what i did for my school... nyu... was forfeit the ap credits (as this is what typical college students do) and then the college physics (which is better than the ap version as its the real deal) is counted into your gpa and is seen by admissions officers. You have to realize, you want to make your application as easy as possible for them to follow. I mean, honestly, do you want to go find stuff for an application or would you appreciate it more if its presented to you.

But in any case, def drop the ap credits, they should only be used to allow you to register earlier.

The OP isn't relying on the school accepting the AP credits - he/she has taken the course in ADDITION to scoring well enough on the AP test to gain credit for the course

Regardless of whether or not the course is calculated into the OP's transcript GPA, it will be included in the AMCAS GPA, which is the only GPA admissions officers see/care about.

If the AP credit counts (some don't count a 3 as passing) then there is no need for you to take the physics class. This happened to me where I had credit for my AP history class and still decided to take a government class, so now on my transcript it shows as if I've repeated the course...if I'd known I wouldn't have taken the course but my counselor didn't know anything about it and said "its best if i got it out of the way for sure" it was a waste of time but i enjoyed the class...but check with them to see what they say as well.

This is a question that could probably be easily answered my calling AMCAS (202-828-0600) and asking them, as they are the ones who will be processing your transcripts.

As I understand it, the question should be phrased:

"I have received credit from school X for physics through AP credit. I have retaken the class and will receive a grade but no credit. How will this appear on my AMCAS application?"

My guess is that they will list the AP Physics AND the second class, but only use the one with a grade to calculate your GPA (as they can't get value points out of an AP class). As far as I know, AMCAS aims to put your entire educational history onto your application during verification. How School X calculates your overall/science GPA is irrelevant to AMCAS.

going off on the same topic, i used my lab credits from ap to get out of lab classes for my pre-req. i did however either retake lecture courses or take upper level ones to replace the lectures i used ap for. but, looking at the lab part of this, will it be used against me since i didn't retake or add onto it? because my advising dept told me it was fine and that lecture courses were more important.

i've read policies for the schools i'm applying to and they are either fine or don't explicitly talk about the labs. go for it anyways? help!

check your transcript, some schools don't accept ap credits and want you to retake it.

the ones i'm applying to never said they don't take them or they say they will take it as long as i took upper level courses and what not. so i technically covered lecture reqa. i'm only confused on the lab part because their explanations and examples were all based on lecture courses credits =/
