Hello Student Doctor network friends! I've been creeping for a long time on the site so I'm not "new" to the site. I have just started studying for the PAT section of the DAT just because I want to practice it like crazy until DAT time, which is a year from now. I figure it is less pressure to just refresh than to start this section a month before the real thing.
Anyways, hopefully this isn't a stupid question or anything. On the hole-punch section I understand that the page can be rotated 90, 180, and 270 degrees after the first fold per kaplan, but can it also be flipped? I don't think it can but I just want to be clear.
Secondly, I was working on some of the problems on the KBB for hole-punch and on page 481 of the third edition (if you have it handy). The intro question seems to have two different answers if there wasn't a multiple choice selection there (and just work with me here and pretend there isn't going to be one). What I mean, is that you could fold the diagonally folded paper down immediately to get the correct answer, or you could rotate the paper 90 degrees CCW and then fold just the corner down. But, upon unfolding you would get the two holes in the bottom left, and not the top left. Yes, I understand i'm hoping people can just refer to their KBB, but if that isn't going to happen then I can elaborate more. I'm just worried that I will get to the DAT and I will start rotating things left and right and end up getting more answers in the wrong quadrant but the correct spatial orientation. Thanks for any help!

Don't have the book well 3rd edition at least but the paper is NOT rotated. it remains stationary. they can fold up, down, left right whatever they want but will not say for instance fold it in half then turn the paper and fold over again.

I'm sorry, I said rotated twice. I meant to say rotated the first time but then the second time flipped. I know it can be rotated because the KBB says so. But I was curious about flipping on the first part. Thanks!

are you sure you're talking about hole punching? kaplan just shuffle things around and reprints things but they won't make such a huge glaring error. I'd double check if you're reading the correct instructions.

But definitely for hole punching the paper is not rotated at all.

OH wooooooww...I was reading it as in they can be folded after the fold....not like it was intended...as in there are more than just 4 beginning folds! I'm not sure If I was just too hasty in reading that part..what do you think?

"Each of these four first folds can be rotated 90, 180, or 270 degrees to give a seemingly larger variety of first folds"

Thanks for the help!

Edit: I wanted to mention herk, that you are currently at 666 posts...uh oh!!

no way they rotate, the folds can come over the page from any side and any length (1/3, 1/2 , 1/4) but can also come down from a corner at a 45 degree angle with multiple folds or it may interact with another of the straight folds. But the paper will stay stationary as well as the answer choices.
