Lets say i got an f a class, if i retake it and get an A, i know that it'll count and the f wouldn't. But, the f stays on your transcript so does medical school count it in their overall gpa calculations?

MD schools include both grades in GPA calculations. DO school only use the retake grade in the GPA calculation.

MD schools will not replace grades. Therefore, having an F will count toward your GPA, regardless if you retook the class and got an A. DO schools on the other hand do replace grades.

It is like if you got an F in Organic Chemistry then an A in biology. Both marks count entirely separately and there's no special consideration that it's for the same course. This was something that I didn't understand until I did the application myself.
