If I took a class at college X and want to retake this class, can I retake it at college A, or do I have to go back and retake it at college X?

Also, some colleges dont let students retake a class where you received a C, how would one go about retaking a class where a C was received? None of these classes are pre-reqs or upper division, but still retaking th will assist the GPA.

Lots of people say it's easier to fix a GPA by retaking classes than by taking more classes, right? What do you guys think?

AMCAS does not do grade replacement, so retaking a course and getting an A will be the same as taking any old course with the same number of credits and getting an A. I don't think it's worth retaking a course you got a C in if it isn't a prereq. Just take a lot of other courses and do very well to help your GPA.

Thanks, now, what about on this issue? Anyone knows?

Sure you can retake it at college A, but I wouldn't expect college X to acknowledge it. For AMCAS, it doesn't really matter, any college level courses taken at college level institutions is counted even when institutions do not accept each other's transfers. If somebody was looking closely at your app, they may wonder if you took it at the other college because it is easier there, but that matters less since this isn't prereq and you can explain it's because you can't retake C's at college X.

Thanks...

Then if I want to retake a class for AMCAS GPA purposes is not a good idea, since taking a different class with the same # of units will be as a retake of a class?

I thought people would retake classes to increase their gpa, now I am confused here..

Retaking a class and getting an A does improve your GPA, but it is equally improved if you get an A in any other class with the same number of credits, for AMCAS purposes. For AACOMAS, however, the A will replace the original poor grade, so long as the credit hours are the same or greater, allowing for a more rapid improvement of GPA than if you took a new class. This latter policy is only true for DO schools, though.

Say you go to UA. You fail ochem. You go to ASU an take ochem again and get an A. On your AMCAS, you will see the F and the A, but as far as UA is concerned, you only got the F. Your ugrad GPA doesn't matter though, only what AMCAS calculates. I will graduate Magna Cum Laude at my ugrad, but have a pretty mediocre AMCAS GPA.

There is no need to retake the class unless you need to know the material, either for the MCAT or for other classes in your major. For instance, I got a C in Italian Theatre (DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS), and decided not to retake since it's not necessary for anything. Now, my C in physics I did retake because I needed that knowledge for physics II and the MCAT.
