Hey guys, I'm just beginning to look into medicine. I have been working as an EMT cuz I was thinking of being a FF/medic but now am considering Med School after seeing the limited scope of a paramedic.
I was looking at UC Davis Med School and am confused on the timing of application with required pre-req's.
Their website says, "All pre-requisite classes are required to be completed by January of the desired year of entry."

Let's say I want to go to Med School Fall 2012.
I have to apply to AMCAS by Oct 1, 2011. Right?
Does that mean I can take a biochem, biology, chem, (a required pre-req) class during Fall 2011 AFTER I have applied and have that class count?
I would obviously have to send in an updated transcript to all the schools I applied to after grades are posted for that class.

Does this all sound correct?
Or do I need to have my classes completed by Jan 2011 (based on this theoretical timeline)?

THANKS GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!🙂

Yes, but you'll want the application in earlier than that. Many people aim to get their primary application submitted to AMCAS in June (2011 for you)

For most schools the classes have to be done before matriculation at medical school. Every school requires that you send an updated transcript in the summer before matriculation. I haven't looked in to UC Davis much, but it sounds like they require pre-reqs to be done a bit earlier. So for them you may need to have them done before Jan 2012, but for most schools its just before matriculation (which would be Fall 2012).

Yes, you can, but you do need two full years to do the pre-reqs at most schools. You have to have a year of general biology, general physics, general chemistry and organic chemistry (which usually can't be taken with general chemistry) all with labs. Some schools you also need biochem, psychology, and a few English courses. You have to have all of that done by January 2011 for UC Davis, and before matriculation at most other places.
