I'm currently a Junior Biology major. URM. 3.0 sci gpa. 3.31 cum gpa. GA resident
Captain Quiz Bowl Team, hold various leadership positions.
volunteer work 100+hours
shadowing 100ish hours
two summers of research.

I still have a bit of time before I apply to dental school (I'm taking the DAT spring 2012).

I'd like some advice one what could I do more to make myself more marketable. I've already started on my personal statement, and have sought out potential professors for LORs

I'm open to any advice.

In case it matters, I'm looking Howard, Meharry, Tufts, Medical College of GA and some other schools I'm not sure yet.

If you're looking to stand out more (positively), improve everything about your application. Increase your GPA, rack up more volunteer hours and dental hours, kill your DAT, etc. We all have flaws that we can improve on. Congrats on being a URM, though. That's actually a really beneficial thing to have on your application.

Awesome.

You've got the right idea op. As gunner said, don't neglect any area to boost another (unless it's GPA and DAT), boost the whole application. Research is also a plus if you can fit it in. Thank your parents for being URM (joking, of course).

I will disagree with the following 2 posters. Your EC's are fine... all you need to focus on is that GPA and your DAT.

As of right now your GPA is setting you apart in a bad way. So just strive really hard your senior year to get as many A's as you can, and bring that GPA up.

Also, the thing that will probably most set your app apart is a high DAT score. Getting a 21 or 22 will certainly make adcoms heads turn.

Not trying to be mean, just saying how it is.

You're fine. URM. Membership has its privileges. Georgia school will be super cheap too. I'm jealous lol.
