I took my step three last week and I am very anxious. The first day I thought was ok, and the mc they were hard, I thought, I missed some easy ones I think, but I know I nailed some of the harder ones, left none blank.

However for the CCS,m I think I was too thorough, about 4 cases ended before I completed them, I knew the diagnosis but ordered and kept checking in on them to see if they were better after my intervention, so in one cardiac case, I didn't actually ever see the post angio results because time was up. In all of the cases, except a few, I wrote a lot of post-end of case orders in those 5 minutes. I think I was thorough, but so thorough, I didn't see the end of at least half of the cases. I wrote the orders for the end of the case, but only after the 5 minute warning. In addition, my ninth case was just not even presented to me (yes, I called all of the people I needed to about this).

I am panicked I failed between missing some easy MC questions because of the massive time crunch and then because although methodical I didn't actually see the end of my ccs cases in real time.

I dont know, any positive thoughts....

Thanks in advance

I think many people have the experience of not finishing the ccs cases. I think they tend to end at odd times, when you think you should be receiving some feedback about how the patient is doing.

In my opinion the CCS system is really a poor one. It does not test what USMLE really wants it to. If they are really interested in discussing/walking thru a case with test-takers, they should really have part of this exam be given orally. That way if something is not understood by a test taker, clarification can be asked for.

But as with so many other things in life that would really hurt the USMLE's bottom line. If you have to pay people to sit down in a room and discuss cases with test takers, that is a big chunk of cash. This is a money making operation in my opinion.

I digress, but I think you will be fine if you were "too thorough".

I however screwed up some really big points, like forgetting to order a pregnancy test prior to scanning a woman of childbearing age, and asking for exploratory laparoscopy on someone who I felt needed it, but refused it, twice. I just kept thinking that is what I would really do in real life. Rather than continuing to order tests that may or may not give a real answer...think I completely screwed up that one...but I still dont know what they wanted me to do because it was unclear.

I wish someone could reassure me a bit about these things, but I think these mistakes are just too big.

My step 3 CCS cases froze. I didnt see the end of half of them or finish them. I called alot of people too. I think there may be something wrong with the new software. Can you pm me?
