I was wondering if it is necessary to disclose whether I took college classes while in high school. If I failed to disclose that information, would it be found out?

It would probably be found out through National Student Clearinghouse. So yes, you must report.

You theoretically can do whatever you want, including making up EC's. If you get caught, however, prepare to never get into any MD or DO school... ever...

Will these courses count in my GPA? i took courses in junior year of high school at hopkins....but i dont want them to count.i dont even remember what they were...my undergrad place didn't take them as credit. all i know is that they were bio classes and they will probably bring my gpa down....please tell me they wont count. i was a junior in high school!

Unfortunately, if they are college courses (even if they didn't transfer), they do count. 🙁

Do you guys think I need to bother with community college courses took in middle school (took psych101 and graphic design, got A's in both)?

I would call AMCAS to ask. If you don't want to do that, I would include it just in case. Better to be safe than sorry IMO.

Yes, these count, too.

Hell, you got As in them - how could that possibly hurt?

I'm not worried about them hurting. It's just that they were in middle school, and something from that far back just seems insignificant. Not to mention, Cal State LA credits don't count at my school, so it's not even on my transcript here. It would be a hassle to try to get this transcript for classes I took almost 9 years ago.

now, flipping the question a little bit...will adcoms see that these courses were taken so long ago? or does it all jumble the same?

You must report ALL courses taken at ANY college, whether their credits were ever put toward a degree or not. And yes, ADCOMS will see when you took them.

Well, AMCAS wants you to report it, and they want the transcript.

What counts at your school is irrelevant.

You should classify them as high school and put the year you took it, so yes. They will see that it was awhile ago.

hmm. i called AMCAS and they said dont count it as high school.i was wondering why they said that. didn't make sense to me.

amcas customer service can be completely unhelpful. they probably meant that they don't count it as high school credit, aka it's counted as college credit, but if you took it during high school then that's definitely where it goes and what it be listed under on your amcas application. it will be counted toward your cumulative GPA (which includes all college courses, etc), not just your high school gpa.

FYI: To my knowledge any class that you received credit for by taking an exam (like a class in HS where u take a final exam and get college credit) is counted as AP credit and does not go into your GPA. So, unless you really took a college class at a college you'd be straight... i think

I took classes my entire junior and senior year of HS at my HS through a local 4 year college. I am going to get a transcript from the college and I am reporting on my AMCAS that I attended that university during that time.

If the grades are on a college transcript, you have to report it. Obviously, if you enrolled in the college/university and paid for the classes, it counts.

From amcas:

Advanced Placement (AP)
To claim AP credit, the credit hours must be listed on your transcript. AP courses should be entered under the term in which the college credit was initially granted. If no term is designated include with freshman coursework. Include AP credit courses only once (indicating AP under the Course Type heading), even though AP credit for the same subject may have been awarded by more than one institution. AP courses can be assigned under the institution awarding the most credit, but cannot be listed under all the institutions that may have awarded credit. If AP credits appear in one block on the transcript, distribute the credit equally among the AP exams taken.
For example:
University of Southern California awards 9 credits for 3 AP exams. On the official transcript this credit appears as 9 credits for AP exams, with no indication of what each exam was. On the AMCAS application, enter each exam as an individual course and distribute the credit appropriately, not to exceed the total amount of credits earned.
If the transcript from the college awarding AP credit does not list actual course names, enter the subject area for which credit has been earned (e.g., AP Credit: English) as the Course Name.
If the following course types appear on your official transcript, they should be indicated as AP on the AMCAS application even if they technically are not Advanced Placement.
• ACE/ACT
• Bypass Credit
• CEEB
• Credit by Exam
• Departmental Exam
• Equivalency Exam
• Experimental Learning
• French Baccalaureate
• Life Experience
• Placement Exam
• Prior Learning
• Proficiency Exam
• Retroactive Credit
• Special Credit
• Test Out
• Validation Credit

That is where i got it from.

Does "Dual Credit" apply to any of the courses listed to be considered AP? Or do I put this information under the separate college I "attended" while I was in high school? Thanks

Yes, you have to report all of your AP classes on your application. Remember you're sending in a transcript also. Don't give them a reason to disqualify you on a technicality.

Sorry what are you saying yes to? That "Dual Credit" is considered AP? Or that Dual Credit should be listed as under the seperate college I earned my grade from (while I was in high school)?

Transcript Requirements
One official transcript is required from each U.S., U.S. Territorial, or Canadian postsecondary
institution at which you have attempted course work, regardless of
whether credit was earned. This includes but is not limited to:
•
College-level courses attempted while in high school, even if they did not
count toward a degree at any college.

•
Colleges at which you originally attempted a course, even if transfer credit
was subsequently accepted by another school.

•
Colleges where you registered but did not earn any credit (e.g., incompletes,
withdrawals, failures, audits, etc.).

•
Courses that did not count toward a degree, regardless of whether credit was
earned or transferred.

•
Extension programs through which you attempted courses, if a separate
transcript is provided by the Extension Division.

•
Correspondence and home study programs.

•
Military education.

•
American schools overseas.

• U.S., U.S. Territorial, and Canadian medical schools.

This came from page 24 of the AAMC guidebook from their website. If you took ANY classes at ANY college, you must turn it in. I have no idea why AP credit factors into this at all. Also, some colleges don't take transfer credit (Notre Dame comes to mind), it still doesn't matter. You have to report it for AMCAS if your undergraduate institution took it or not.

The class should be listed under what university you took it at.... you need to send in a transcript from ALL schools you attempted credit at. AP plays no role if you took a class for credit at any college/university.

Thanks I appreciate the quick responses. I have another question, however.

I took a Bio AP/Dual-credit class in high school..

The AP portion of this gave me CREDIT (CR) for Bio I/II/III and the lab. The Dual-Credit portion gave me college credit AND a grade but for only Bio I and II.

How should I input this into the AMCAS application? Should I list all the courses I received college credit for in high school that appear on that college transcript (Bio I and II) AND then separately list the AP credits under freshman coursework (Bio I, II, AND III)????

This would mean listing Bio I and II twice.. which I think my advisor said it shows on my transcript as taking it twice. =/ Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't know if this was clear, but I didn't actually take bio twice.. i just took it in high school as AP/dual credit. Which gave me credit some how for BioI BioII BioIII+lab.. then BioI and BioII again

honestly, if you get caught, i doubt the consequences will be that severe. i bet there are people who legitimately forgot to include CC courses they took in high school that applied. doesnt seem like such a big deal. i mean if you didnt have SDN, who would remind you of these courses you took 4 years ago? i hardly even remember what i did or what i was like 4 years ago...
