Question regarding application

Hey guys,

I have read that many schools do not accept AP credits for prerequisites. I used my AP Chemistry score of 4 to satisfy the chemistry requirement. I took Orgo I, II and got an A-, A respectively. I plan to take Physical Chemistry I,II in my senior year (I am a junior now). Do you think I should bother taking chemistry at the college level during the summer? Will this be a problem when I begin applying or do you think the fact I will be taking physical chemistry be enough to satisfy most schools. Thanks for the advise!

I think it might depend upon the school. Many schools do allow you to replace the required basic courses with upper level coursework. You should look on the websites of schools you're interested in, and find out what their requirements are.

If you're taking inorganic I and II with lab, then you're AP credits don't matter.
You'd have enough to satisfy both one year of organic and one year of inorganic.

It really depends on which schools you are applying to, there are a few that won't take AP credit for prereqs no matter what, some will accept AP credit for prereqs ony if you have taken upper level courses in that subject/dept (pchem would probably satisfy it I would think), some schools are completely fine with AP credit for prereqs.

If you know which schools you want to apply to then call them up and ask.

I just finished up Comprehensive Biochemistry (cross-linked graduate class) and am taking the second portion of this class this coming semester. In addition as aforementioned I will be taking physical chemistry through next year. Do you think these will satisfy the needs of most schools? I feel it would almost be a waste of my time to take summer courses of chemistry I,II having already done extremely well in most of my advanced coursework thus far.

The only schools that I've seen that absolutely won't accept them are the UC schools. There may be others that won't take it for biology, but most don't have any problems with you taking the exam for chemistry.

OP, I highly doubt you'll have any problems with taking those additional chemistry classes. But I'd suggest e-mailing the schools before you apply to check, just in case.
