Does anyone know what would an Opt school prefer to see on a transcript:

a C grade in a pre-req course

or

failing a pre-req course and retaking it & getting an A?

I'm currently in the second half of ochem and I'm honestly not sure if I will be able to pull a C off as a final grade or not... I'm just trying to figure out if I should work my hardest to try and pull off a C or if I should just put that study time toward my other courses and "accept" an F?

Any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try for the C. 1 C won't kill your GPA.

Is withdrawal an option for you? If not, I would go for the F, retake the course at the same school and try to get an A next time. If you retake the course at the same school, the previous F will not be calculated to your GPA and the repeated grade is used instead. However, if you have failed a couple courses prior to this one, then I'd recommend pull it to a C because too many repeats seems pretty bad on the transcript.

Withdrawal at this point requires permission + a REALLY good excuse for dropping (such as death in the family).

As far as the repeat goes, I know that the F won't be calculated into my GPA at my current school once I retake it but I know that the grade will remain on my transcripts...

I'm guessing that opt schools will still take the F into consideration when looking at my GPA?

A few optometry students I talked to said they had repeated a course, and opt schools still accepted them. So I think opt school will know you repeated the course, but I doubt it's a big deal if you can show improvement upon retake.
