Hello, I have a question that I want some opinion on.

Is taking Genetics, OChem I, and Physics II in one semester a bad idea? Has anyone here taken similar course per semester and done extremely well? If you did well, how many hours did you spend a week studying?

Thank you for sharing, I'm just trying to get as much information as I can before I finalize my Fall schedule.

It will be a tough semester but it's not impossible to do well. You will need to be disciplined in your studying. I assume you'll have labs for ochem, physics, and (maybe) genetics. The amount of time spent studying will largely be dependent on your familiarity with the material and speed at which you learn. I would estimate that ~0.5-1.5 hr/subject/night of studying/reading/etc may be needed. Read the material (TB, notes, etc) ahead of time, do practice problems (and hw), go to office hrs, use your tutoring/learning center, and work with friends. Oh and (try to) get enough sleep before all your exams.

I'm a terrible example of what one should do to keep a good GPA since I tended to do well when I had a crazy schedule (~22-24 credits/term my whole UG). Don't follow that example unless you're a glutton for pain 😉. Good luck!

This schedule would be tough but doable. You'll have to stay on top of time management from the start of the semester and be aware of when your exams are scheduled so you can plan your study schedule. Knowing that you'll have a tough semester ahead of you, you could preview the material before the semester starts. I'd estimate 1-2 hours of studying per day for each class.

Only lecture part for each class. I will be in physics lab if an opening comes. Thanks for the replies!
