So I recently got hired as an anesthesiology tech, and by recently I mean today. I don't start until next week so I have 0 experience as to what the job entails. All I know is that I'll be in the OR helping the anesthesiologist. Obviously this looks good on my application and I want to include it as I'll get a lot of clinical exposure but how do I talk about a position that I know nothing about? I want to submit my application tomorrow so waiting until I know more about the job and submitting a few weeks later isn't an option.

Also when I list it do I put 0 hours or should I put the hours I expect to have by next year when I would matriculate? Seems kind of silly putting 0 hours but I don't like estimating into the future as I feel that's frowned upon so I'm in a weird situation here.

I don't think you are supposed to put new jobs, since if it were to fall through in a week (you don't like it, office overhired, etc. other issues), you would look pretty silly. You'll probably be asked in interviews what you're up to this year, etc. and you can bring it up then, but right now I'd say its not appropriate to put on the app.

You should not put activities that you have not started yet on AMCAS. You can send an update letter/email to individual schools after you have a better understanding of what the job entails and you have a couple months of experience in it.

Got it, guess I will be leaving it off. At least it gives me something interesting to talk about if I get an interview.

Yup great fodder for interviews and update letters but unfortunately not something you can put on your app right now

You can also include it in your secondaries when they start rolling in
