Well, it's my first time in here so HELLO 😀

Anyhow, I just started my first year of college in Mercer university, and I really really really want to go to UGA pharmacy school after completing all the requirements in two years. So I did some research on the website but somethings still confused me so I was wondering if anyone here could help me out.

1) I want to go through early admission, but then the deadline for it is around sept 9th. Does this mean that they will only consider at my freshmen GPA? In other words, does my high school grades and SATs matter? I just thought one year's GPA seems to be little limited information...

2) I am an international student, but studying in GA (Mercer), does my international student status make my admission be even more competitive? :xf:

3) Regarding PCAT, which PCAT is the last one that I could submit to the early admission deadline?

4) Again, on PCAT, the UGA website said they don't look at writing sections (hallelujah!), but then is it likely that they will continue this policy next year?

I can't answer all of these questions positively, but as far as the high school grades go, I def. don't think they look at your high school grades or SATs. They only care about college course work that you have completed, plus the PCATs.

Also... UGA is a state school, I'm pretty sure, so your international status could be good or bad. You are not a GA resident, which might be a disadvantage because I know UF explicitly states that they give preference to Florida residents, so UGA might be similar. However, schools are always trying to increase their diversity, and your status makes you unique and stand out from other American applicants, so maybe it will work to your advantage. I'm not sure?

btw, are there any international students in your pharmacy school? Or if there is an international student in the forum, could you talk to me about how the admission is?

they don't look at highschool grades unless it's AP credit. They usually take a good look at your prerequisite class grades and gpa. that's very important so keep it up. I don't think they care much about SAT, they're looking for PCAT. High pcat and gpa is goal to getting an interview. I'm not sure about international students, you might have a little leg up on that but i'm not sure.

Usually they like to have pcat scores in by that date, but the test date right after that submission date should be fine (ask them about this). Usually though, you won't get an interview until you have at least 1 pcat score. They usually don't look at writing because you write an essay during the interview. Also, this is the way it was for regular admissions, but they don't interview anyone or look at apps until they're all in. That might be different for early admission though.

I wasn't aware that UGA had a early admissions deadline, I actually didn't even know they did early admissions. I thought the only deadline is Feburary 1st. Also, they do not look at anything other than your pre-req GPA and PCAT score. Being an international student, you might be at a slight disadvantage, it probably won't show on paper, but if you have a strong accent, this might keep you from doing well on the interview. And the last PCAT score they take is the one from January.

When you say january, you mean the january of the applying year right?
In other words, if I apply for fall 2011, they will see the january 2011 test?

Contact Vivia Hill-Silcot. She handles minority recruitment for the College of Pharmacy. She will be able to field any questions you may have regarding international students.

Good Luck!
