Hi everyone,

I did some research but I was unable to find a clear answer to my question. I obtained a new job a few months ago and started volunteering, and because I have complete silence from most of the schools I have applied to, I thought it would be a good time to submit an update letter/LOI to the schools that accept them.

The schools who allow update letters to submitted through the portal are pretty self-explanatory; however, what about the schools that say they they accept letters but don't specify where to send them? Do I email the letters to the admissions email? Snail mail the letters in?

I understand what appropriate content the letter should contain, just unsure as to how to get it to them! All help is appreciated! Thanks again!

I sent most of my updates in via email. Try looking at the School-Specific threads on here. If you do a search, you can see what email address folks have been sending their updates to. Usually it's just the generic admissions email address but it may also be the email address of someone who works in the admissions office.

Thank you! If you don't mind me asking, what schools/situations did you decide to send snail mail updates instead of email?

I didn't send any via snail mail. I sent them all either via email or through the school's portal, if they give that option.

For schools that do not have a LOI portal or those that do not say "we do not accept updates" I called and asked preferred method. It only takes ~3 min to call admissions. Are they annoyed? Probably. But it was the best way to get the straightest answer IMO.

I have a friend at a school that doesn't accept updates. He says they won't interview someone that sends one against recommendation...

I was asking for schools that do state they accept update letters...I would not want to annoy a school that blatantly says they do not accept LOIs

@robin911 seemed to imply that he was going to send one anyway. Perhaps I misunderstood.

Sorry, my post was unclear. I meant for schools that do not have any info regarding LOI, I called and asked their preferred method. For schools that do have LOI information or those who say "we do not take updates" I just followed those guidelines and did NOT call.
