Question to working pharmacists

I despise being average. Work until you are 70, have 2 children, a wife, and die X 6.6 billion people... What's the point? I equate mediocrity to death... I hate living below my potential. It's disgusting and repulsive for me.

For me, working for others = Average. $1M goal is just a number game; it's a point where I can take the interest income be financially secure and do whatever I want (think bond avg 5%/year, equity 8%/year, part time job/different job/start a business).

When I die, I make sure at least 10% of my wealth is going to a charity I like, then the rest to the next kin...

Do you work in California?

If you do you should be glad you live in that state where they mandate they have to pay you time and a half. Because if you worked in a state like AZ, certain chains would only pay you $6 an hour extra for overtime.

Also do you work over night?

If so how does it work... Do you get a night differential or do you work less than 84 hours but get paid for it? In AZ, you get 5 dollars an hour extra for working night but you do work 7-12s in that week, so 84 hours. I know other places you work like 70-72 and get paid for 80, which actually turns out to be a better deal.

If you only recieved $6 and hour extra would you still work as much?

I admire your work ethic and I think you have a good goal. However sometimes working so much could cause health problems and you could die early because of it. I work overnights and do pick up extra shifts too. Hower there are some weeks I don't work extra at all so I can pursue my passion which is travel. On the weeks i do work extra i try to get 2-4 shifts(if available lately there hasn't been much). So i average about 1 to 2 shifts extra on my week off, however i do stop to smell the roses. This year I have driven the the whole west coast(wash-southern cal), 10 day carribean cruise, vegas(4 times including one side trip to grand canyon), chicago, palm springs, san diego, alantic city, and still have planned this year chicago for thanksgiving, trip to vermont/montreal. My point is at least take a few breaks during the year and enjoy life because you could die tomorrow. Plus the weeks I work 4 extra shifts on my weeks off I am physically and mentally exhausted, I need at least 48 hours to recover, not sure how you can do it ALL the time. 😱

If I made time and a half i would have made close to what you made last year. I do however have student loans and a house so I can't save as much as you but I do max out my 401K and put about 10-15K per year in savings(haven't invested yet), and do pay more than minimum on student loans(3 years ago I had 150K now I have 100k). I hope to pay off student loans in 3-5 more years, then i can really start saving like you, but not sure how much of my passion(traveling) I want to put off.

That's how I feel about it, you never know when your time will come. That is not an excuse to lively stupidly, spend freely or shirk responsibility, but it is a reason to enjoy what I have now when I can. I might not be alive at retirement age, or next year.

We live pretty modestly. Reasonably priced house, older fully paid cars, no credit cars, money in the bank. 👍

And you think working till you are 45, having no wife, no children, accumulating a million dollars and then living off interest for 20 years and then die X 6.6 billion people makes you above average and allows you to achieve your potential. In a possibility of being able to DO WHATEVER YOU WANT, you are giving up the ability to DO WHATEVER YOU WANT RIGHT NOW. I would have really admired your goal of rising above average if you did not keep associating money with success as in so many of your posts.
