Hi, I was wondering if resin veneers are the same as composite resin bonding, and if not which is better and costs less?
ItsGavinC said:No, those are two completely different procedures.
Dental veneers are custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials that are designed to cover the front surface of teeth. These veeners can be made from porcelain or resin materials.
The porcelain veeners will resist stains much better than resin and they will also mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth much better. Resin veeners, on the other hand, require less natural tooth structure to be removed prior to placement because they are thinner.
Composite resin bonding, in the way you are referencing it, is used to build up a small portion of tooth. For instance, if a young child had chipped off part of their central incisor, then the dentist could rebuild the missing portion using composite resin bonded to the remainder of the natural tooth.

Dr.SpongeBobDDS said:Generally, the resin bonding done by the dentist will be cheaper, but this depends on the dentist. Just remember that this can be a very tricky thing to do well. You may save some money but it will probably NOT look as good as veneers that were fabricated in a lab. Your dentist will be happy to give you several options if you explain what you want to accomplish.

Please, please, please, please, please, please, PLEASE talk with a dentist first. If you can't afford much, find a low-cost clinic in your area. Lots of us pre-dents have volunteered at these kinds of clinics, and if you live in or close to a major city there's gotta be something nearby. The results of trying anything on your own (meaning not under a dentist's care or advisement) really could get very, very disasterous very quickly.hyperactive said:well I dont have enough money for regular veneers and I need quick results so I think I just might try the bands and watch them carefully and make sure nothing happens.

Also, not only pre-dental students, but dental students like myself volunteer at dental clinics too. Although, most people that we treat are in acute pain, not many people come in for esthetic restorations.

How far are you away from a bigger town or a fairly sizable city? Could you get there somehow?hyperactive said:Well I live in a small town where I know for a fact that there are no volunteers or pre-dental students.
