I truly believe that I've found my calling. I plan on going into clinical pharmacy and I can honestly say that everytime I step into the hospital (I go once a week for school) I feel as if I'm in the right place. I certainly don't believe everyone feels that way, but I can say without a doubt that I do. Also, as hard as pharmacy school has been, I wouldn't want to do anything else.
I've learned to love it, especially kinetics. I love looking down a list of meds for a patient and seeing how they are metabolized and if that could cause any interactions. You can't go by Clinical Pharm reports for drug interactions. It requires analysis and application of knowledge. It's really fun.

Loving your career/profession may be too lofty a goal initially. The reality of it is that if you do anything long enough it will eventually become routine so you have to continue to find new ways to challenge yourself within your practice. In this regard, pharmacy is great b/c it provides so many different types of options and fortunately all of which pay pretty well. The biggest challenge I think many pharmacists and/or pharmacy students encounter is having the courage to try new things and/or to explore different career paths that would make one happy getting up everyday and having a career vs work. Obviously there will be good days and bad days, but in the end it feels good doing something fairly enjoyable and being able to pay the bills w/ a fair amount of ease. In addition to all of that, you have the rare option to change practice settings (i.e. retail, hospital, etc) to something else completely different assuming appropriate credentials (i.e. FDA, CDC, industry) at the drop of a dime and still potentially make the same fiscally and maintain a reasonable quality of life outside of work. So to answer the question...Do I love pharmacy?...Well it probably depends on what day you ask me, but overall the profession has given me a lot of satisfaction and options that few other professions provide.

Do You?
I'm new here
I grew up in my uncles pharmacy.. Cleaning floors and capping bottles at the age of 10 seemed like a good job to have. As I got older I got many more jobs within the pharmacy. As soon as I got my license to drive I was put out on the road to deliver meds. This is when I found the passion for pharmacy. My uncle built his foundation from the ground up delivering meds to his own patients and getting to know them and their family. He always expressed how important it was to spend time with a patient. As I worked more in the pharmacy I found the exciting new things that meds did.. To me that was the icing on the cake. As I got into college I started studying computer science.. After a year of it I realized I wasn't presuing my real dream.. Which was pharmacy. I was scared of getting into it because I have always had problems with math. As I got futher into the actual classes (micro, a&p, chems) I realized how much I liked it and set my disability in math to the side. I have become more confident in myself and I'm currently finishing up my pre-reqs and have applied to pharmacy school. It took moving away from my family pharmacy when I was 20 to see what the world held.. I'm now in phx, az working my butt off and going to school.. Even though I'm not working in retail I still have a passion for It and see myself working at one of my aunts pharmacy's or in retail (that Is if I get into pharmacy school..)
So as the story goes I give props to anyone who has ever feared the one thing they loved, but strived to get where they wanted to be. I'm living proof that if you want it bad enough you'll fight to the bitter end to get it. It took a good friend of mine to finally tell me to my face.. "go to school you're wasting all that knowledge you have about meds! Look at me im in pharmacy school and you know more than meee!" yip.. That would be my best friend who finally opened my eyes.
Good luck to you all.. And keep working hard.

Why are you asking?
I actually don't know.
My father who is a pharmacist has been trying to force me to be one all my life that I'm not sure if I'm doing it because he wants me to or because I want to. Hopefully it's more because I want to.
If he hadn't tried to force me so much, I think I would have been more sure (and a bit happier as well). I want to see if I really like it so I applied. So far, it has been wonderful. I love the patients we work for.

I'm with you on that one!takethou said:What little bit I've done of it so far I've loved. I'm sure there will be days that I hate it, but that comes with any job. I'll tell you one thing for sure, it beats the hell out of teaching!![]()
I have loved pharmacy for quite a long time now. Initially when I first saw a pharmacist (at the age of 8 years old) I was in awe with her vast knowledge of my amoxicillin medication.
Then, when I became 16...Instead of working at the mall like my other friends, or at the local fast food joint....I started working at Sav-on pharmacy. Initially I was a clerk....then after 2 years I became a Technician, and as of the Fall I will be an Intern. Its always been my dream to become a pharmacist...and I've always been facinated with medication, and drugsssss. Hhehehe, anyway, so yeah. I love it!!! Keep working hard my fellow Legal Drug dealers.
