Hello all,
I had a question. Is it better to apply to get in med school for jan or may? The reason, because of a wait time between 4th yr and the match process ? Thanks for any input. 🙂 I hope this a clear question.

Actually, I'm not really clear on what you're asking. The only med school admissions "match" is with the Texas schools. Otherwise, match doesn't happen until your 4th year of med school as you're applying for residencies.

Regarding Jan vs May, the medical school application cycle starts in June and cycles through the following spring. So those of us applying for the current cycle are hoping to matriculate in Aug/Sept 2008. For people who don't get in, they'll repeat the process for matriculation in Aug/Sept 2009. There are no intermediate start dates.

Seconded.

Sounds like the OP is talking about a Caribbean med school (some of them have 3 semesters, each taking M1 classes). From what I've read, there is no disadvantage in entering the January class, as you will not miss the match.

I think this should be moved to the Caribbean forum, though, if this is indeed what you inquiring about.

My bad, sorry, thanks for answering the question though.

unless I have lost my mind....😀...so your question is appropriate.

Jan is way better in most cases for acceptance, for residency match you may be behind by as much as 9 months and have to wait in the end but getting the MD should be #1 in my book.

Jan gives you a SMALL chance of matching with the previous September's class, but may will match with the following September's class.

Either was, assume that you will always match with the following September's class.
