I am wondering whether classes like Brain Damage and the Mind or a class called Advanced Seminar in Neuroscience would count towards BCPM? Additionally would a class like Psychopathology count?

I tried searching for relevant posts, but I found none.

Thanks

if it's in bio or neurobio dept yes, if it's in psych no. wow that sounds like an awesome course

hmmm...

I dont know offhand but I seem to remember that on the AMCAS primary application help webpage they listed a full description of what subjects counted exactly.

Sorry I cant help more! 🙂

Hmm, Ravin, I wonder if you go to school where I do. If, as at Brown, Brain Damage and the Mind is in the psych dept, it does not count for BCPM. If your Advanced Seminar is in the neuro dpt, it does count for BCPM.

Is there any way to petition for courses to count for BCPM?

Don't be so quick to say that just because something is in the psych department, it won't count. I got "Psychopharmacology" and "Advanced topics in psychopharmacology," which are both psych courses, to count towards BCPM, no questions asked. I did not have to do a special petition or anything. I didn't attempt to count psychopathology though but its certainly worth a shot.

It's my feeling that AMCAS pretty much leaves this to your discretion -- they give you guidelines and all, but if you really feel that a course in the psych department has enough of a bio slant to it to count as BCPM, I would go for it. In the end, they're probably going to take your word for it and not check into every course every person lists. You don't want to outright lie, but it sounds like you're using good judgement. 👍

Fair enough--I'm definitely no admissions expert; I was just going by what our premed advisor says about those sorts of classes, so go for it ravin🙂
