Hi.. it may not have happened to anyone else but maybe it has..

I got a D in Calc my freshman year (due to many stupid circumstances including illness, time management, no luck, etc..).. I retook it this past year (junior) and got a solid A. my transcript shows

2.2 MATH 222 5cr D Calculus & Analytical Geometry
4.2 MATH 222 0cr A>D Calculus & Analytical Geometry

what should I do for AMCAS.. especially since I would put in 0 credits = A and 5 credits = D..

ALSO, do we get to see what it calculated for the AMCAS GPA or do we do that ourselves? if so, where does it show?

In addition, is Northwestern (IL) a research school? Part of my experience doing research was realizing that I don't like it, it was interesting but it makes me feel like a lab rat with no windows to the outside world and therefore, I want to be a people person type doctor... but I wouldn't want to say that to a school that is very focused on research instead of clinical care..

thanks for any input.. multiple opinons requested

ohh i've got MSAR too but it's not too descriptive when it describes that stuff..

So your transcript shows your D getting replaced by the A? If so, I think you still have to input ALL courses attempted, including those retaken with grades replaced.

Yea, I went to an application workshop and they said you need to put all grades, even repeats and the failing grades.

Not sure if NW is research oriented, but it doesn't really matter. Even if it is, doesn't mean you have to do research there.

might matter if a school prides itself on research and if your interviewers like research and you tell them that you find it boring.. 😴

Haha, but if you were a good interviewee, you wont' say that. 😎

I hate research and I got into Northwestern med, and no where on my application did I ever mention liking research or anything about research for that matter save for a small blurb on the AMCAS that I did stuff with rats for a summer. Northwestern has a ton of research opportunities but it also has a ton of students who don't utilize any of them. 🙂
